Certain chlorinated solvents are considered incompatible with standard polyethylene. However, a gas treatment process known as fluorination alters the surface of molded polyethylene products, making them compatible with these and many other aggressive chemicals. The light blue color indicates that the SpillPallets and grates have been fluorinated.

Ultra-IBC SpillPallets

Containment pallets for drums have achieved widespread industry acceptance since their introduction in the late 1980s. However, for various reasons, many companies have chosen to discontinue using drums in favor of Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) in recent years. As expected, these companies are now concerned with capturing leaks from tanks caused by rust, corrosion, faulty valves and worn fittings. Three Ultra-IBC SpillPallet Models have been developed to meet these needs and allow for compliance with EPA Container Storage Regulations.

This listing was prepared to provide guidance to the chemical compatibility of Ultra Environmental Containment ProductsÒ which are manufactured and constructed of a molded polyethylene.

Polyethylene is susceptible to attach by some chemicals which may cause stress cracking, swelling, oxidation or may permeate the polyethylene. These reactions my reduce the physical properties of polyethylene.

When considering an UltraTech polyethylene product for use in secondary containment applications, it is important to note that most secondary containment products are designed to hold leaked chemicals for only hours, a day, at most a week. These secondary containment units would then be cleaned of any chemical. In these short term applications, a greater variety of chemicals may be used with the polyethylene since the exposure time of the chemical to the polyethylene is limited.
